The New York Federal Reserve has grim news over “The Labor Market for Recent College Graduates”, especially for those getting degrees in computer fields.
The unemployment rate for Computer Engineering graduates is 7.5 percent. For Computer Science graduates the unemployment rate is 6.1 percent.
These folks would have been better off and had an easier time in college had they majored in Art History, where the unemployment rate is only 3 percent.
Despite the horrible job market for new computer science graduates, the U.S. continues to approve H-1B visas for about a quarter of a million computer workers (and only about 1,600 for art).
