What H-1B Fraud?

 What H-1B Fraud?

Manav Bharti University in India has been involved in a fake degree scheme since at least 2010.

The Indian press reports that the school sold 36,025 fake degrees, while awarding 5,455 real degrees. A fake degree cost as little as $1,400. The selling of fake degrees appears to be widespread in India.

That raises the obvious question: How many H-1B visas have been granted to graduates of Manav Bharti University?

The Center for Immigration Studies submitted a Freedom of Information Act request to USCIS asking that question.

USCIS recently responded with the answer: It has no idea. The letter from USCIS says, “USCIS does not track data on ‘H-1B awardees who obtained degrees from Manav Bharti University.’”

The last compliance audit for H-1B was done in 2008. That found over 13 percent of approved H-1B visas were fraudulent. One can see from USCIS’s record-keeping how it is that fraud pervades the H-1B system.
